structure your WFH day

It’s been about a month now that most of us are working from home and we are slowly starting to face this as our new normal. Some of us are really enjoying it while others are finding it rather challenging. The out-of-routine throwing a spanner in the works for even the lesser OCD people.

I know I can get easily distracted by walking with friends, finding a reason to go to Woolies more than once a day (because, you know, it’s an outing), watching Netflix and then comes the redecorating…oh, the redecorating, don’t get me started on that.

So, I have forced myself to create structure. I actually recalled a few tips I used when I worked from home a few years back, and found them to be helpful during this time:

  • Start your day with a morning walk, stretch or online workout

  • Colour block your day in your calendar. Make sure it’s from your morning routine to when you shut the laptop and always include breaks.

  • Set timers in your calendar and notifications for the tasks you need to complete.

  • Remove yourself from your desk occasionally for a stretch, to make a cup of tea or to check in with your friends.

  • Schedule quick FaceTime conference calls with your team for connection, and have a group message for all the gif’s.

  • Arrange knock off drinks on Friday (or Tuesday) from your couch with the Houseparty app.

Soon you’ll readjust and then probably love being home all day while your dog stares at you waiting for you to leave again…or is that just Pebbles?
